Olvera Street, 1930

Named in 1877 after Judge Agustín Olvera—the first
judge of the city and county of Los Angeles—this world-famous
street was closed to vehicular traffic and made into a Mexican
marketplace through the efforts of Christine Sterling and others
in 1930.
Tour Information: Free docent-guided tours of
El Pueblo are conducted Tuesday through Saturday by El Pueblo’s
volunteer docents, Las Angelitas del Pueblo at 10:00am, 11:00am
and 12 Noon.

These tours start at the Las Angelitas del Pueblo
office, located next to the Old Plaza Firehouse on the southeast
